Selfishness: loving yourself more than you love everything else
Self-concisouness: not loving yourself enough
A verse that I’ve never applied to myself before is 1 Cor 13:4-7
“Love is patient, love is kind, it doesn’t not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
God teaches us to know love, how often we love ourselves too much, but how often do we not love ourselves enough.
This is always a really good perspective flip for me when I’m getting down on myself. It’s honoring to God to love others, but also ourselves as well, with a genuine selfless, love. Selfless, kind of funny to think about, but I would say it’s an unconditional selfless love that is in part with the Holy Spirit. I rarely, if ever, do things right; but God loves me, me in all my weaknesses, he loves me. Sometimes I just need to love his creation more.
